Choose how big the grid is and which directions words may run in, and the puzzle rebuilds as you type. Two details make an Arabic word search different from an English one, and both are handled here. The grid runs right to left, so a word placed in the natural reading direction reads properly rather than mirrored — get that backwards and the puzzle looks fine to anyone who does not read Arabic and is unusable to anyone who does. And the letters are kept apart so they do not join and change shape, which is what would otherwise turn a grid into an unreadable ribbon. Harakat are stripped automatically, since a fatha sitting above a grid cell gives the answer away. The same list always produces the same puzzle, so printing it again next week gets you the sheet you already handed out. Common questions
Which direction do the words run in?
You choose. Right to left is the natural Arabic reading direction and is on by default, along with downwards and diagonally. Left to right is offered as the "reversed" option for a harder puzzle, together with upwards and the reverse diagonal.
Why have the harakat disappeared from my words?
They are removed on purpose. A single grid cell holding a letter with a fatha or a shadda stands out from its neighbours and tells the class exactly where the word is. The word list printed underneath keeps whatever you typed.
One of my words was not placed. Why?
It either did not fit the grid or could not find a free run at any position. The tool names the words it could not place rather than dropping them quietly. Try a larger grid, or switch on more directions to give it more room.
Will I get the same puzzle if I come back tomorrow?
Yes. The layout is generated from the word list itself, so the same words and the same grid size always produce the same puzzle. If you lose the printout you can print the identical sheet again.
How do I print the answers?
