A seating plan is only worth the time it takes to make if it tells you something while you are standing in front of the class. Lay the room out the way your room really is — desks are dragged wherever you want them, so rows, pairs, groups of four, a horseshoe and islands all work — then drop pupils into them and keep the information you need on the card in front of you rather than in a separate spreadsheet. Four one-click arrangements do the placing for you when you would rather not move thirty desks by hand. Keep a plan for every class you teach, switch between them from one menu, and turn on pupil view before it goes on the board so the room sees names and nothing else. Download the finished plan as a Word document to print, edit or leave for a cover teacher. Everything runs in your browser — no pupil data leaves the machine, which is what makes it usable without a data-protection conversation first. Common questions
Where is the pupil data stored?
In your browser, on your own machine. Nothing is uploaded, so no pupil information leaves the device you built the plan on. That is the point of the tool rather than a limitation — the moment names and SEN notes reach a server this stops being something a teacher can use without asking anyone first.
Can I lay out a room that is not rows of desks?
Yes. Each desk is dragged by the grey strip along its top, so groups, horseshoes and islands all work as well as rows. There are also four one-click arrangements — rows, pairs, groups of four and a horseshoe — because most rooms are one of those and nobody wants to place thirty desks by hand. Desks can be nudged with the arrow keys too, so the room can be laid out without a mouse.
Can I keep a plan for more than one class?
Yes. Add a class, name it, and switch between them from the menu at the top. Each class keeps its own desks, its own pupils and its own layout.
Is it safe to put the plan on the board?
Turn on pupil view first. It hides levels, tags and notes and leaves names only — "SEN" and "Talkative" are not for the whole room to read. The Word download follows whatever pupil view is set to, so you can save one copy to display and another for yourself.
Can I print it?
Yes. Download it as a Word document and print or edit that, which is the version worth having on the desk during a cover lesson. Printing straight from the browser also works.
Do I need an account?
No. You can open it and build a plan straight away as a visitor: one class, up to twelve pupils, and every desk draggable. An account only raises the ceilings and unlocks the extras.

A paid plan adds the SEN and EAL tags and the Word download. Dragging desks by hand, seating pupils, shuffling, pupil view and printing from your browser are never limited. The tool tells you which plan you are on and what it covers before you start, and any control your plan does not cover stays on screen and says which plan it belongs to rather than quietly disappearing.
If I upgrade, do I lose the plan I have already built?
No. Everything is stored in your own browser, not on our server, so it is untouched by anything that happens to your account. The limits only ever apply to adding more.
