Arabic Numerals & Numbers in Words
Swap between ٠١٢٣ and 0123 anywhere in your text, and see any number written out in Arabic words.
Two jobs that always come up together and are never in the same place. The first is swapping digits: paste anything — a sentence, a date, a page reference, a whole worksheet — and every number in it changes between Western 0123, Arabic-Indic ٠١٢٣ and the Persian and Urdu set ۰۱۲۳, leaving the words around them alone. The second is harder and rarer: writing a number out in Arabic words. That is not a lookup, because Arabic number agreement genuinely is difficult — three to ten take the opposite gender to the noun they count, so it is ثلاثة كتب but ثلاث صفحات; two, two hundred and two thousand have their own dual forms rather than being "two" plus the word; and the plural after a thousand flips at eleven, from ثلاثة آلاف to أحد عشر ألفًا. All of that is handled, up to the trillions, with a switch for whether the thing you are counting is feminine. Useful for cheques, dates, invoices, and for the lesson where a class is learning exactly these rules. It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Common questions
What is the difference between Arabic-Indic and Persian digits?
They share most shapes but differ on four, five and six: Arabic-Indic writes ٤ ٥ ٦, while Persian and Urdu write ۴ ۵ ۶. Textbooks and websites mix them freely, which is usually why a document looks inconsistent. Both sets are offered here so you can normalise a whole document to one of them.
Why does the tool ask whether the thing I am counting is feminine?
Because Arabic numbers from three to ten take the opposite gender to the noun they count — a rule called تمييز العدد. Three books is ثلاثة كتب, but three pages is ثلاث صفحات. The tool cannot see your noun, so it asks.
Can it write out very large numbers?
Yes, up to the trillions, and it handles the plural changes correctly on the way: ثلاثة آلاف for three thousand but أحد عشر ألفًا for eleven thousand, since the counted noun switches from the plural to the singular accusative at eleven.
What happens to decimals?
The whole part is written out as a number and the decimal part is read digit by digit after فاصلة, which is how it is said aloud and stays unambiguous however long the tail is.
Will it convert numbers inside a sentence?
Digits, yes — paste as much text as you like and only the digits change. Writing out in words only happens when the box holds a single number on its own, because spelling out every number inside a paragraph would be noise rather than help.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Every conversion happens in your browser. There is no account, no limit and no server involved.
