A highly flexible admin tool for splitting a year group or class into balanced sets. Import students with their Academic Level, SEN, EAL, and Gender. Use the sliders to define the weight of each attribute. The tool runs a weighted snake-draft algorithm (using a seedable randomizer) to produce perfectly balanced groups every time. Reproducible, fair, and transparent.
Common questions
How do I define "balanced"?
You define it using the weight sliders. If a school cares mostly about academic levels, they set the "Academic Level" slider to 100% and the others to 0%. If they care about mixing SEN and EAL students equally, they adjust the sliders accordingly. The algorithm calculates a composite score for each student based on these weights.
What format does the student list need to be in?
The tool accepts a CSV format: `Name, Attainment, SEN (Y/N), EAL (Y/N), Gender (M/F)`. For example: `Ahmed, 85, N, N, M`. Attainment is numeric (0-100).
What is the "Seed Key" for?
The Seed Key initializes the internal randomizer (`mulberry32` from your runtime). If you don't like the balance of the first generated groups, you simply change the Seed Key (e.g., change "Term1" to "Term2") and click Generate again. The tool will create a completely different, yet still perfectly balanced, distribution.
